ONLINE FACULTY FORUM

The "Reacting to the Past" Faculty Forum is an online discussion board intended as a tool for Reacting faculty to maintain threaded conversations and share new course materials that may be helpful to the entire Reacting community.  Registered members can also download student and instructor's materials for games in the "Reacting to the Past" series and many others in development.

Permissions

New faculty interested in accessing the forum should send an introductory email to Dana Johnson, Reacting to the Past administrator, at reacting@barnard.edu.

User Instructions

STEP 1: ONLINE REGISTRATION

  1. Click here to visit the registration page, or go to http://beatl.barnard.columbia.edu/forums/index.php and click on the link at the top of the page to register.

  2. When prompted, create your username in the following format: first initial + last name (such as "djohnson"). You may add a display name after you have registered. If you wish to receive emails from other Reacting faculty forum subscribers, please enable the "receiving email" function.

  3.  Validate your e-mail address by following the instructions sent from "BEATL Forums <reacting@barnard.edu> ".

  4. The forum administrator will grant you permission to access the "Reacting to the Past" Forum. (This process may take 2-3 days. You will not be able to view the "Reacting" forum until this process has been completed.)   

 

STEP 2: LOGGING INTO THE FORUM

  1. Once your account has been upgraded to enable access, you will be able to view and submit posts. Log in at http://beatl.barnard.columbia.edu/forums/index.php using the username and password (that you registered with)

  2. Click on the category you are interested in viewing: “Course Design, Curriculum, and Pedagogy”; “Reacting to the Past Series (Pearson)”; or “Reacting Game Development”.  

  3. Select the thread to begin reading and submitting posts.

 

STEP 3: DOWNLOADING INSTRUCTOR’S MATERIALS

  1. General instructor’s materials, such as sample syllabi, an introduction to the course, and the Pedagogy Manual, are available in the “Course Design, Curriculum, and Pedagogy Forum.”

  2. For games in the “Reacting to the Past” Series (Pearson), click on the Series category and then select the individual game title (e.g. Defining a Nation: India, 1945). Pinned to the top of each game’s page, you will find a list of the materials and PDF files available for download. To download, click on the file and follow your browser instructions.

  3. For games in development, click on the “Game Development” category and then follow the instructions above. 

  4. If you cannot find the game you require on the forum, please contact Dana Johnson (djohnson@barnard.edu) and she will put you in contact with the game’s authors.
