Since 2001
the Durga Mandir in South Brunswick has welcomed individuals
living nearby and those with a special affinity for this
goddess who is both mother and warrior. While women
especially seem drawn to this space, they equal the number
of men present. As worshippers come here for various
reasons, their experiences within the temple walls also
differ: some come to worship one of the other many gods or
goddesses; some visit this and other nearby temples
indiscriminately; while some come especially seeking the
feminine power and connection of Durga with a particular
devotion, in hopes of affirmation and empowerment.
