Residential Life & Housing

New First-Year & Transfer Students

About 95% of students live on campus in one of Barnard College’s 12 residence halls. Students are encouraged to live on campus for at least their first year in order to acclimate to the campus and to New York City.

All first-year students are assignmed to double-, triple-, or quad-occupancy rooms in "the Quad" (Brooks, Reid, or Sulzberger Hall) and are required to be on the unlimited meal plan (which has kosher and vegan options) in the Hewitt Dining Hall.

Transfers students may apply to live in single-, double, or triple-occupancy rooms in any of the upperclass residence halls. In the fall, spaces is available on the two floors reserved for transfer students in Elliott Hall. The unlimited meal plan is required for any transfer student assigned to Hewitt or Brooks Hall (in the Quad); however, many other students choose to sign up for partial or full meal plans. The number of singles and/or rooms not requiring the meal plan available for assignment is limited.

Any student with a diagnosed disability who may need some form of housing consideration (accessible housing, strobe fire alarm for a deaf student, etc) should contact Disability Services to complete a Disability-Related Housing Request (DRHR).
