You get a "low connectivity" error message when you try to connect to the Internet.

Connect via USB.

  1. Go to the Control Panel (in the Start Menu, usually under Settings).
  2. Go to Network Connections. (If you do not see Network Connections as a choice in the Control Panel, go to Network and Internet Connections and then choose Network Connections from there.)
  3. Right-click on Local Area Connection and choose "Disable" from the drop-down menu.
  4. Unplug the Ethernet cable from your computer and also disconnect it from the modem, you will not be using this cable to connect to the Internet.
  5. Find the USB cable that should have come with your modem, connect the larger end to the USB connector on the modem and the other end to a USB port on your computer.
  6. Insert the CD that came with your modem labeled "THOMSON digital|BROADBAND CABLE MODEM" into your computer.
  7. Windows should automatically "find" your new hardware. Follow the prompts to automatically install new hardware. The Install New Hardware Wizard will find a driver for your USB modem on the CD.
  8. Wait a few minutes for the modem to get an IP address.
  9. You should now be able to connect to the Internet. If you want to use your computer in another location and connect to the internet via Ethernet, remember that you have disabled your Ethernet card and will need to re-enable it to use the Internet in other locations and then disable it again when you come back to Cathedral Gardens.
