Ebear has become an intricate part of a Barnard student's life. We use it to register and file for classes, check our schedules, and access the daily happenings on campus. It's a system that we've come to rely upon and it is frustrating when attempting to sign on generates the message "You are not a current user of Barnard College." If you find yourself in this situation, fear not, there are a few easy and quick solutions.

As a temporary solution, try a different browser or a different computer. If you’ve been using Internet Explorer, try Netscape, and vice versa.

A common reason you could be denied access to Ebear may be due to your Internet Options. If your privacy is set high and you are blocking any kind of internet cookies on your computer, you will not be able to access Ebear. What you need to do is open Internet Explorer, go under Tools, and click Internet Options. Under Internet Options go to the Privacy tab; you can then set the bar to what level of blockage you want. To be able to access Ebear, a medium level is recommended. If this does not work, also check your settings for internet cookies in Zone Alarm, Spybot, and Ad-Aware, to ensure they are not set too high. You can do this by clicking on the program and changing the settings in the programs’ menu options.

In addition, pop-up blockers and plug-in search bars, such as those made by Google and Yahoo, can also prevent Ebear from letting you log on. Try disabling those. Each search bar is slightly different, but most have a ‘disable’ feature. If you can’t find one, you can always remove the search bar by going to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

If these solutions do not work, feel free to contact Academic Technologies (ext. 4-7172) and someone at the Help Desk or an RCA will come to your aid.
