Email Disk Quota Increased!

All students, faculty, and staff now have the same, large email quota: 100 MB. The previous quota was 30 MB for students and 50 MB for faculty and staff. As before, anyone approaching their quota limit will receive a warning message. Warning messages are sent after a user has gone over 90% of the quota, or 90 MB of space.

If you go over your 100 MB, you will not receive new email. It is important to stay aware of how much of your network space you are using. There are two ways of seeing how much space you are using.

The first is through Ebear. Log onto ebear at http://ebear.barnard.edu. Click on the 'Email' tab at the top of the page. To the left of the screen there will be a graphic telling you what percentage of your quota is in use. If you log in and delete a lot of email, the graphic might not update immediately.

The second way is through pine. Log onto telnet at http://www.barnard.edu/telnet.html. When you get to the dollar prompt, type "quota -v" (without the quotes). This will give you a more detailed report as to how your space is used.

As always, your server space isn't just for emailing. You can use SSH Secure Shell Client, available to download on Ebear in the My Tools tab under Downloads, to access your account and store files. For more information on configuring and using SSH, visit the SSH tutorial on the EdTech site: http://www.barnard.edu/edtech/ssh/ssh.html
