Dear Digital Diva, I loved "Love Your Computer Week" last semester, when is your next event?!

The next Resnet event is actually very soon! The RCAs have been organizing Komputerfest, a fun event where you can ask general computer questions and also learn about Barnard's switch to secure protocol and how to reconfigure your email clients to accommodate this change. RCAs will be set up in Upper Level Macintosh Thursday, October 20th, and in 401 Altschul Hall on Friday, October 21st. Expect some neat prizes!

Dear Digital Diva, What kinds of problems can an RCA help me with and when can I come into the lab?

The Residential Computing Program was created to provide technical support for students connecting to Barnard's local area network (LAN). The program is staffed Residential Computing Assstants (RCAs), Barnard students who are trained in networking and computer support. RCAs are available during Office Hours help students troubleshoot and configure their computers for Barnard's wireless and local area network, prevent and diagnose virus, spyware, and adware problems, and to answer computing questions. RCAs can try to help you to identify hardware or operating system problems, but they cannot install additional hardware or open student computers for repairs.

There are two other kinds of student employees at Academic Technologies: Lehman Computer Consultants and Help Desk technicians.

Lehman Computer Consultants work at the front desk in the Lehman Computer Center and are available at all times that the lab is open. They handle a wide variety of problems and questions, including: corrupted diskettes, email account questions, uni activation, printing problems, MSOffice questions, and where to get help with other computer problems.

The Help Desk is open from 9am until 5pm Monday through Friday. Help Desk technicians respond to calls and emails from students, faculty, and staff. You can call the Help Desk if you have a problem with your computer, internet connection, or email account. If they are unable to resolve your problem over the phone, the Help Desk will enter a ticket for you and can let you know when the next Office Hours are so that you can get help from an RCA.

You can call the Help Desk at 4-7172 and look at this week's Office Hours online. If you come into the lab for help with a computer problem, please remember to bring your power cable with you!
