Good Passwords
General Guidelines:
- Never share your password or your account with anyone
including family, friends, faculty or staff unless extreme
circumstances demand it. Sharing accounts is not permitted
at Barnard.
- Never write down your password in an obvious location.
(e.g. on a sticky note on your monitor!)
- Periodically change your password.
- Do not use a password suggested in this document.
- Avoid using passwords that are part of accessible information
about you, such as your phone number, your mother's maiden
name, your social security number, the name of your pet,
or any word in the dictionary, including languages other
than English.
Eclipse Password Requirements:
Your eclipse password must:
- Be immediately changed after initial email activation!!
- Your password must have at least 6 characters
- Your password must have a combination of upper case letters,
lower case letters, and numbers or symbols (Pa55word, bar@narD5, 4ungrY)
- Remember that UNIX is case sensitive (e.g. Hungr2y and
hUngr2y and hungr2y are all different passwords)
Eclipse rejects the following words as passwords:
- Anything in the dictionary (including all names)
- Any combination of letters that are close to a word in the dictionary
- Dictionary words in reverse
- A word or character combination that is too similar to
a previous password (case change only, palindrome, too many similar characters)
