Go to a location on campus where wireless networking is available. (Please see the Network Info
page for information on how to configure secure wireless in the residence halls. Secure Wireless is currently available in
Elliott and Sulzberger Halls.) Click on one of the links below to see a map of wireless coverage on the Barnard and Columbia campuses.
Install your wireless ethernet card according to the manufacturer's directions.
Click Start, select Control Panel and then double-click on the Network Connections icon.
Right-click on the Wireless Network Connection icon and then select Properties.
Click on the Wireless Networks tab. A list of wireless access points appears in the Available Networks box.
Under Preferred Networks, click Add. In the Network Name (SSID) box, enter "Barnard College"
and then click OK. Click OK again until you exit out of the Network window. Windows may
request that you insert your Windows XP CD.
Take a look in your computer's system tray (lower right hand corner of the screen) to check if your wireless connection is working. Note that this icon
also indicates whether a wired ethernet connection is present and enabled.

You can check the strength of your connection by checking the icon below:
The more green lines you have, the better your connection.
