Welcome

The Writing Fellows are specially trained peer tutors who work with writers in all disciplines. Writing Fellows staff the Writing Center (located in 18 Milbank); they are also attached to various Barnard College courses.

Writers of all skill levels and in all disciplines are welcome to use the Writing Center. Excellent writers who understand the value of feedback use the Writing Center. First year students writing First Year English/First Year Seminar papers use the Writing Center, as do seniors writing senior theses and students for whom English is a second language. Writing Fellows themselves often use the Writing Center.

Please consider applying to be a Writing Fellow!

The Writing Fellows are specially selected Barnard undergraduates who participate in a semester-long workshop in the teaching of writing and, having finished their training, staff the Barnard Writing Center and work in courses across the disciplines. Students in all majors are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be rising sophomores or juniors.

Applications are available now and will be due to Prof. Pam Cobrin's mailbox (417 Barnard Hall) on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 by 1 PM.

Grammar Workshop

The Writing Program, along with Human Resources, the Dean of the College, and Office of Disability Studies, are happy to announce that the Grammar Workshop will taking place this year!

This not-for-credit workshop is open to students, faculty, and staff.  It will cover the basics of parts of speech and sentence structure, work with both student writing and published writing samples, investigate some infamous grammar mysteries, and practice the rules of punctuation and presentation that all professional writers must follow.

It will take place in Barnard 409 on six Tuesdays from 12:00-1:00pm: 2/16, 2/23, 3/2, 3/9, 3/23, & 4/9.

Writing Center Opening

The Barnard Writing Center will open for the Spring 2010 semester on February 1, 2010. Our online scheduler will be live starting on January 25.

Please join us at Bar 13 on September 24 (6-9PM) to reconnect with old friends, to make new ones, and to share memories of your time spent as a Barnard Writing Fellow. We are honored to have Nancy Piore, founder of the Writing Fellows Program, join us to celebrate this WFAN inaugural event!
