The Annual Candlelight Concert:
 A Celebration of Women Composers

Featuring the Barnard-Columbia Chorus
Saturday, December 13, 2014
8 PM
Church of the Ascension, Broadway at West 107th Street

This year’s concert includes transcendent scores by British composer Judith Weir and renowned organist and composer Ethel Smyth. Performances include Judith Weir’s Illuminare Jerusalem, which showcases her greatest strengths—simplicity and succinctness—as well as her setting for choir and text, Ascending to Heaven. Also featured is Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D Minor, which George Bernard Shaw praised as magnificent, and was inspired by the composer’s reading of Thomas à Kempis’s The Imitation of Christ. Join us in welcoming the festive holiday season. Reception to follow.
