NANCY MENDELSON GATES
UTA Partner and Co-head, Television Talent Department
Nancy Mendelson Gates is a Partner at UTA and the Co-Head of the TV Talent department at UTA. At UTA, she oversees the careers of some of television’s biggest stars, some of the industry’s most exciting emerging talent, and the operations of the New York office.
Gates graduated from Barnard College/Columbia University in May 1989 with a degree in Political Economy. She secured a Masters of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin in May 1993 and followed this with work in Economic Development in New York City. She moved to Los Angeles in 1996 and began her entertainment career in UTA’s Agent Training Program. She was one of the fastest-promoted UTA agents, earning her talent agent stripes in less than two years. In January of 2012, Gates moved to Manhattan to open UTA’s New York offices.
Having worked in the Television Talent department for over 20 years, Gates has been instrumental in both growing the agency’s television talent operations, as well as developing and packaging successful network and cable series. Since moving to New York, she has helped the agency build its operations from 4 to over 100 employees.
Among a long list of clients, she represents such talented actors as Lake Bell, Jason Biggs, Liv Tyler, Susan Sarandon, Zosia Mamet, Sarah Paulson, Tim Daly, Paul Giamatti, Michael J. Fox, Patrick Dempsey, Anna Friel, Elizabeth Hurley, Brooke Shields, Kenan Thompson, Wilmer Valderrama, David Tennant and Natalie Dormer.
Gates is active in the UTA Foundation and with her Alma Mater Barnard College/Columbia University. She is married and has one twelve year old daughter.
Kendall Ostrow oversees the social media and digital brand strategy group at UTA. Ostrow advises clients across the agency’s numerous departments on how to define their brand in the online space, as well as leverage their voice to market their projects and their insights to further monetize opportunities. Ostrow also leads UTA’s partnerships with the world’s leading digital and social media companies. While at UTA, she has spearheaded new initiatives and partnerships, including co-developing SnapperHero, the first scripted series on Snapchat, which was nominated for six Streamy awards in 2015. Ostrow's work in the digital space has been recognized extensively, from the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, to AdAge's 40 under 40 list. Her innovative campaigns have been featured across media outlets including Fast Company, Forbes, AdWeek, AdAge, BuzzFeed and TechCrunch. Before her job at UTA, Ostrow launched and managed the social media presence for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Her work earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2011 for “New Approaches – Daytime Entertainment.” She also worked at ID PR overseeing digital strategy for their celebrity, corporate, startup and non-profit clients and was part of the NBC Page program. Ostrow attended the University of Arizona where she graduated with a BA in Media Arts with a minor in Art History.
Mary Petro is a graduate of Loyola University New Orleans where she earned degrees in Music Business and Spanish. With more than 20 years of training on the violin and piano, she regularly performed with symphonic and chamber orchestras as well as Latin, jazz, funk, and electronic groups along the Gulf Coast. Following graduation, Mary worked in event production and fundraising for the Contemporary Arts Center and later at Loyola’s College of Music and Fine Arts.
In 2014, she relocated to New York and accepted a position at Columbia Artists Management, Inc. During her time at CAMI, Mary booked tours for and worked closely with the management for many of the top international touring orchestras, world music, theatrical, and dance companies.
Mary joined United Talent Agency in June of 2016 as the Midwestern territorial agent in the PAC/Adult Contemporary division. She books an eclectic roster of artists, ranging from Ms. Lauryn Hill, Norah Jones, and Rachel Platten to 3 Doors Down, The Plain White T's and more.
Miro Terrell recently joined United Talent Agency as a TV Talent & Literary agent in New York. Prior to that she spent seven years at Comedy Central in the Talent & Specials group scouting talent for the network’s development pipeline and producing stand-up specials & series. Before joining Comedy Central in 2009, Terrell served as a casting associate and office production assistant on various commercial productions. She graduated from the theater program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2007 with a BFA in design and directing.
