As part of the Ingeborg, Tamara, and Yonina Rennert Women in Judaism Forum, which seeks to enrich education about women and gender in Jewish history, Elisheva Baumgarten presents a social and religious history of the Jews of medieval Northern Europe (1000- 1400), taking pains to include the stories of those who did not write the histories that have reached us. She is the author of several works that focus on women and gender hierarchies, including Mothers and Children: Jewish Family Life in Medieval Europe. Professor Baumgarten is Yitzhak Becker Chair in Jewish Studies in the department of Jewish History and Contemporary Jewry at Hebrew University. Sponsored by the Barnard Religion Department.
