Monday April 2 was the fifth annual World Autism Awareness Day co-sponsored by Autism Speaks (autismspeaks.org) along with numerous autism organizations from around the world. With spring break and room selection behind us--we are now in the home-stretch of the SP'12 term--so please make sure that you focus on keeping yourselves well with adequate rest, good things to eat and plenty of exercise now that the days are getting both warmer and longer!

Barnard Emergency Drill: Wed April 4...9am-12noon...South end of campus

This is a reminder that during all life safety emergencies--students with mobility impairments who are unable to self-evacuate safely using stairs should call Public Safety at 212/854-3362 with their name, location and cell #--and wait for further instructions. In the event of an actual emergency, trained fire safety personnel will assist in a safe evacuation. Please call ODS if you have any questions about what to do in a life safety situation.

Marsteller Summer Internship Grants

As most of you know, the deadline for all online applications for the Career Development Alumnae and Donor Sponsored Internship Grant Program is this Wed April 4 at 11:59pm. Marsteller Internships can be in any field--and must be a minimum of 8-10 weeks in duration and with a required/signed statement by your prospective Internship Coordinator. All applications will be reviewed by OCD and ODS--with applicants notified in the coming weeks. Event reminder: Please join this semester's current Marsteller grantees for a lively panel discussion on *Disability in the Workplace* on Tue April 24 from 6-7pm in the OCD Conference Room in Elliott Hall. Jackson-Stricks Scholarship Program: Applications due April 18!

The National Council of Jewish Women (New York Section) is pleased to announce the continuation of their scholarship program "to students with physical challenges who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in the NY Metropolitan area". Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded--and the very brief application can be downloaded from the Council's website at www.ncjwny.org--or you may contact either ODS or the Council at 212/687-5030 x14. Good luck on your application!

FA'12 Program Planning

Be sure to think about your disability-related needs as you plan for your FA'12 courses--and feel free to set up a check-in appt to discuss any questions or concerns with either Susan Q or Okie and remember to plan ahead. Students with particular access needs (i.e. wheelchair accessibility) are encouraged to speak with ODS now so that we can work to ensure that your classes on both sides of Broadway are held in accessible locations for you. Please review the excellent ODS brochure *Program Planning and Disability* which has a thorough list of bullet-points to review well in advance of the next term. Study Abroad and Disability

If you are planning on completing a study abroad program in AY 2012-2013 (either or both semesters)--pls set up a check-in appt now so we can discuss any needs you may have while abroad to make sure that your accommodations are in place. DNA: Do Not Assume--that others will know what you need or how your needs can be provided! Please review our ODS brochure *Study Abroad and Disability* which has many helpful tips and resources for ensuring that your overseas experience will be disability-friendly.

TAF (Test Accommodations Forms): Early Reminder re: SP'12 Finals

Please watch your email for a friendly reminder from Susan L re: making sure that you check-in about any finals in which you currently have a signed TAF on file in ODS. This term's firm deadline will be Fri April 20 at 4pm--and please remember that after 4/20 when the Proctoring Schedule is set--we will be unable to respond to any late requests.

DARA: Disability Access Recognition Awards

Is there a member of our community (faculty/staff/student) who has been especially supportive and/or creative in responding to you and to your disability-related needs this semester? Please stop by ODS and nominate them for a DARA to show them that they made a difference in your life--and most likely in the lives of other students with disabilities as well. The DARA form is also available on the ODS website--or just email us the name of the person and why you have
nominated them for a DARA!
