The mission of the Barnard College Community Involved in Tutoring Youth Program (“Barnard C.I.T.Y.”) is to encourage Barnard students to become civically engaged in the College's surrounding neighborhoods through providing underserved and at-risk middle and high school students in the Morningside Heights, Harlem, and Washington Heights communities with the after school academic support they need to thrive and succeed in school.
For the 2013-2014 academic year, the Barnard C.I.T.Y. program will operate at PS/MS 165.
Barnard students will serve as after school tutors to members of the eighth grade class at PS/MS 165 (234 West 109th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam), with a focus on science and math subjects. Tutoring sessions will take place on-site at PS/MS 165 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, beginning on February 6th. Tutors will also assist with periodic enrichment activities for students, such as college readiness, leadership, and basic financial fluency workshops.
All Students may apply and will be paid $10/hour. The application deadline for Spring 2014 is Monday, February 3rd, at 11:59PM and the application form is available here.
