Apply for Housing

Note: Students who have a guarantee of housing may receive a pre-bill for housing at the multiple room rate. Students who are later assigned to a single room will have the difference in price between a single room and a multiple room assessed to their account at the time of assignment.

Application requests specifying only a particular residence or type of housing cannot be accommodated, nor can roommate/suitemate preferences based upon race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, religious practices, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, dietary preferences, physical abilities, and/or age cannot be accommodated.

Submitted forms must have your written signature (not typed). If you are not able to fax/scan a completed form to us, you can use a website like fillanyform.com to fill out the form and draw your signature (and then email the completed form to us).

Rising-Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors

Eligible returning students take part in the Room Selection process in early spring to secure housing for the following academic year. Students must be currently residing in on-campus housing (or have lived on-campus for the semester prior to leaving for an approved study abroad program) in order to be eligible to take part in Room Selection.

Students who do not take part in Room Selection and wish later to apply for housing (or were not eligible to participate in Room Selection) should submit a Housing Application (PDF), no later than June 1, in order to be on the Non-Guaranteed Wait List. Priority will be given by submission date and distance from campus.

Please note that while Residential Life & Housing will make every effort to provide a room assignment, housing is not guaranteed for students who do not take part in the Room Selection process.

Students who are currently living off-campus or applying for readmission to the College should submit a Housing Application (see below).

Students returning from Study Abroad (or from visiting Spelman College)

Returning for the Fall Semester (i.e. away for the Spring)

If you wish to live in on-campus housing (either at Barnard or CU), you must submit the Return from Spring Study Abroad Housing Form (PDF), no later than January 1.  On this form, you will designate a Proxy who will register you for Room Selection and, if applicable, pick a room for you at the Housing Lottery.

Note: even if you plan on living in CU Greek Housing, Special Interest Housing, applying for a Disability Housing Accommodation, being a RA- or ODS pull-in, etc.; you must submit the Return from Spring Study Abroad Housing Form (PDF), no later than January 1, in order to be eligible for housing.

Note: you must have been residing in on-campus housing for the semester prior to your study abroad leave in order to be eligible to participate in Room Selection, receive a Disability Housing Accommodation, be a RA or ODS pull-in, or be assigned to CU Greek or Special Interest housing.

If you do not have a Proxy select a room for you and wish later to apply for housing (or were not eligible to participate in Room Selection), please submit the Housing Application (PDF) no later than June 1 in order to be on the Non-Guaranteed Wait List. Please note that while Residential Life & Housing will make every effort to provide a room assignment, housing is not guaranteed for students who do not take part in the Room Selection process.
