Dear Barnard Community,

As we lead into the final week before the start of classes, we are writing with a few reminders and updates on construction activities anticipated through early September:

  • Barnard Hall lobby: Overhead ceiling and sprinkler work is expected to extend through the first week of classes, with the north and south entrance doors remaining available for building access during this time. The front door and main lobby of Barnard Hall will reopen on Monday, September 11 (rather than on September 1 as previously announced).
  • Barnard Hall upper floors: The loudest remaining activities are expected to occur on the mornings of Friday, August 25 (third and fourth floors), Monday, August 28 (second and third floors) and Tuesday, August 29 (second floor). Full access to faculty offices will be restored by September 1, but some limited temporary enclosures may remain on the second and third floors through September.
  • Barnard Hall plumbing shutdown: A full plumbing shutdown is scheduled for Friday, August 25, starting at 6 p.m. The shutdown will impact the use of all bathrooms and plumbing fixtures in Barnard Hall. Water service should be restored mid-day on Saturday, August 26.
  • Milstein Tunnel: Localized waterproofing work is in process along the Lower Level corridor between Barnard Hall and Milstein. Tunnel access between Barnard Hall and the Milstein Center will be maintained at all times while this work is complete. Additional waterproofing work will take place at the exterior of the Milstein Center next week, in the flower beds across from Futter Field.
  • Overtime work: Our construction team will be working weekend shifts on the next two Saturdays leading up to the start of the semester. Please expect to see contractor activities in Barnard Hall on August 26 and September 2 from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Additional extended hours (from 6:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) may be needed during the week on a limited basis.
