Dear Members of the Barnard Community,

Happy August! Wherever you are around the globe, I hope you’re having a chance to savor the last few weeks of summer before the new academic year begins.

Our campus has remained busy with summer courses, the Summer Research Institute, GroWing the Arts, STEAM in the City, our Pre-College Programs, faculty research, and much more. I’m having a wonderful time connecting with many of the faculty, staff, and students who are here this summer, and I’m in awe of the passion and intellectual energy that pervades these four acres. I’ve also been fortunate to meet many of our accomplished and devoted alumnae across the Northeast.

I look forward to meeting many more of you when you return to campus. I want to learn about what inspires and challenges you and hear your ideas for the future of Barnard. To our new students: As you walk through the Barnard gates later this month, I’ll be out on the sidewalk with our amazing staff, ready to greet you and your families as you begin your journey.

It’s also a pleasure to introduce a new member of the senior leadership team. Kelli Murray, a highly skilled and collaborative problem solver who worked with me at University of Florida Levin College of Law until 2020, has joined Barnard as our Executive Vice President for Strategy and Chief Administrative Officer.

Finally, as I mentioned in my note earlier this summer, we will host various opportunities in the coming weeks and months to engage in conversations about the Supreme Court’s ruling on affirmative action. We hope to create spaces for us to learn, examine, and work together on the impact of this ruling. This will be just one of the many pressing issues we will explore together throughout the academic year.

I am so honored to lead this extraordinary community. Here’s to a month full of rejuvenation and preparation for an engaging new year on campus.

Very truly yours,

Laura Rosenbury
President
