Accreditation

On June 23, 2011 the Middle States Commission on Higher Education reaffirmed accreditation and commended Barnard for progress to date and for the quality of the self-study process.

The Statement of Accreditation Status provides important basic information about the institution and its affiliation with the Commission.

The focus of the most recent Self-Study process at Barnard was two-fold: to reflect upon and thoroughly evaluate the College through both a broad lens and a detail-oriented approach; and to examine the ways in which we engage with and meet the fourteen Standards of Excellence defined by the Middle States Commission of Higher Education (MSCHE).

Given MSCHE's focus on assessing learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness, the 2010 Self-Study highlights the ways in which assessment of the institution and of our students' learning outcomes have become embedded into life at the College, as well as the ways we will continue to assess all aspects of life at Barnard in the years to come. The Self-Study is organized according to the standards, with recommendations listed at the end of each chapter and summarized at the end of the document.

The team visit took place from February 20-23, 2011. The Visiting Team produced a report with suggestions and recommendations going forward that can be viewed below.
