Weather Update

Due to the storm, Barnard College closed at 4pm Friday, for non-essential personnel. “Essential personnel" include staff in Facilities, Public Safety and Residence Halls.  

Friday evening and weekend classes are cancelled but events are going forward as planned unless otherwise noted. The Athena Film Festival programs are also scheduled to go forward as planned but please check http://athenafilmfestival.com/ for the latest information. 

The Barnard Library and Archives closed at 4pm Friday and will remain closed on Saturday, Feb. 9.  The Library will resume regular hours on Sunday opening at 10am.  

Please be advised that due to the conditions, certain entrances to campus may be closed.  The main gate at 117th Street & Broadway will remain open.  For further updates on college operations, please check this website, call the College Emergency Information Line 212-854-1002 or check AM radio station 1010WINS.

Barnard Consulting Bootcamp

Program Overview:

Barnard Consulting Bootcamp in partnership with McKinsey & Company is a 1 day program designed especially by McKinsey for women at Barnard with a range of diverse backgrounds, academic majors and work experiences.  Absolutely no prior experience in consulting or business is required- only curiosity and an interest in solving public, private and social sector problems!

This is an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their knowledge of business and consulting, gain confidence, network and get ahead of the application and interview process, which is in late September for seniors and January for juniors.  Participation in this program will bolster your chances of receiving an internship and /or full-time job offer in the industry.The

Barnard Consulting Bootcamp will:

  • Introduce you to management consulting both broadly as a career and specifically in your first few years of consulting - what do you really do on a daily basis?

  • Help you develop a profound understanding of your passions (what gives you real meaning?) and how consulting or other careers could give you an opportunity to pursue them.

  • Help you  identify your strengths and how you can build on them to be successful in your first full time job - in consulting or elsewhere

  • Help you prepare for consulting interviews- in particular the case interview format with coaching, tips and a practice cas

  • Give you an opportunity to meet Barnard alums currently working at McKinsey who are excited to meet you!

This program draws on materials that McKinsey currently uses with recent college grads joining McKinsey, as well as McKinsey's "Centered Leadership" program which incorporates recent research on happiness, meaning and wellbeing.

Application Requirements:

Barnard Career Development (BCD) and McKinsey & Company are looking for motivated students who are eager to take an active role in their career preparation. Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria: 

  • Incoming Junior or Senior in 2012
  • Interest in consulting or curiosity about learning more
  • Strong academics
  • Interesting work or volunteer experience
  • Leadership on campus or in other organizations
  • Provide a solid response to 2 short answer questions

The program requires a firm commitment from 9-5 on Friday, September 14th. Please do not apply unless you can guarantee your attendance on the 14th.  No exceptions. The deadline to apply is Friday, August 31, 2012 .
